Where to Stay in Belgrade?

Where to Stay in Belgrade

Serbia has a population of more than seven million residents and is worldwide famous for its capital-Belgrade. Belgrade, being the capital of Serbia, is also the biggest city in the country and definitely worth visiting. The country itself has a very long and rich history. When we say long, we`re talking about 7000 years. Surprising as it is, Belgrade is one of Europe`s oldest cities, meaning that there are numerous things and sights to visit. For starters, let`s get to know the place before deciding to travel here. Belgrade officially has one point four million residents. However, with the current situation, more and more tourists are flooding the city, and the current estimated number of residents is around 3 million. Since the number is quite high for a European city, there must be something that attracts so many people from around the globe.

Still, if you`re not convinced about visiting Belgrade, check out the following reasons.

1. Reasons for Visiting Belgrade

First things first, the location is a crucial aspect of the city as Belgrade is positioned at the mouth of the Danube and Sava rivers. These rivers give rise to the port, and you might think we`re only talking about spectacular views. However, the rivers boast numerous nightclubs, restuarans, bars, islands, and even beaches on Ada Ciganlija and Big War Island. Furthermore, you can check out riverbanks like Ada Medjica and Ada Huja, endless green parks, and scenic nature. So, nature enthusiasts should put Belgrade on the list of European cities to visit.

Now, it`s time to talk about history since Belgrade is one of the oldest European cities. Because of its ideal location, Belgrade was often a target for northern, eastern, and western invaders. We`re not going to tell you all about Belgrade`s 7000 years long history but leave it to you to explore it if you decide to visit.

Next, it`s important for you to know that according to TOS ( Tourist Organization of Serbia), Belgrade has more than 3 million visitors every year, while the strongest point of the place is South Slavic hospitality. Residents here are very friendly and open to guests, while the city is safe when compared to other European capitals. This place is very dynamic, and there is no chance you`ll get bored here. Also, the festival culture is widespread here, and the city hosts more than one hundred festivals every single year. Whether you`re interested in art, design, music, poetry, literature, food, art, or technology, if you plan your trip, you can enjoy many festivals with quality programs.

Another reason why you should visit this country, Belgrade in particular, is the amazing culinary scene meaning you won`t be hungry here. The same goes if you are a coffee lover, as the city`s coffee culture is very widespread. Belgrade`s residents simply can`t function without visiting cafes at least two times during the day.

These aren`t the only reasons why Belgrade is a perfect tourist destination, but we consider them the most important ones. However, every individual is different, and you might have a hard time deciding where to stay here. Neighborhoods here differ when talking about prices, amenities, green fields, access to the river, architecture, and localities. So, it might be hard for a traveler to make the right decision, and that`s where we come in.

Dorcol Belgrade

2. Where to Stay in Belgrade?

Vracar

Vracar is the smallest municipality of the city, but it doesn`t lack anything. In fact, this place is mighty and represents a spot just outside the old center. Vracar is one of the most desirable places to live in Belgrade. The city`s iconic temple St.Sava is the heart of Vracar, along with the Belgradebuilding skyscraper and the National Library of Serbia, which looks like it came out of Harry Potter. If you want to be in the heart of the city, Vracar is your best bet.

Dorcol

Speaking of the center of the city, Dorcol is another great neighborhood to stay in. The neighborhood is divided into two sections, while the name of the place comes from the Turkish word for crossroads. The neighborhood was once a very busy trading center during the Ottoman occupation. Dorcol is a great place to stay if you are into sipping coffee and watching the day go by.

Palilula

Nearby Dorcol and Vracar is another prime location called Palilula. Palilula occupies prime real estate but without the intensity and traffic. This neighborhood has a different background story since it came into existence during one of the Habsburg occupations of the city. Palilula boasts the city`s largest kart racing track and even an artificial island.

Zemun

This one comes as a bonus since Zemun is often described as a city inside the city. According to Belgrade residents, Zemun is a part of Belgrade. However, it is evident that this city differed from Belgrade and was always fiercely independent. If you plan on visiting Belgrade with your loved one, we recommend staying in Zemun, as the signature Danube river creates a very romantic setting and boasts glorious restaurants. If you are a fish person or want to spend your night drinking in old-school local pubs, we recommend staying in Zemun, a city within the city.

New Belgrade

It`s hard to call New Belgrade a neighborhood since it is a huge part of Belgrade. As the name says, New Belgrade is a very young neighborhood and borders Zemun. It sprung from a swamp at the end of the 40s and has outerworldly architecture.
