Fun Things to Do in Belgrade
Planning a trip can be very confusing, especially when researching a travel destination. The world is huge and making the right choice might seem like a hard thing. In general, Europe has a lot to offer whether you want to explore Spain, the German part, France, or the Balkans. However, recently the Balkans are becoming more and more interesting. Serbia has been the center of the Balkans and the most popular country for decades. Now, you might think that we're biased, but the main reason why we recommend Serbia is because it's the biggest country, and the biggest city is Belgrade. Belgrade has a population of about 2 million residents and is a huge city. Whether you want to explore Serbian history, go clubbing, dine in one of the best restaurants in Europe, or try out extreme sports, Belgrade has it all. So, without further ado, let's proceed with Fun things to do in Belgrade.
1.Kalemegdan Fortress
Our first recommendation is to explore the old Kalemegdan Fortress. It was built in 279 BC and is located at the very center of Belgrade (white city). To make things even better, it's open 24/7 and free for anyone to visit. Kalemegdan is huge, and many people love to chill there on the weekends. Besides, the view of the city from the Fortress is magnificent. During the summer days, there are numerous festivals, and you can even get free dance lessons. Here, you can find the biggest sculpture in this area of Europe and learn about its history. Besides being one of the most beautiful places, Kalemegdan is also mysterious. Beneath the fortress, there are numerous underground tunnels, and their purpose still remains a mystery.
2. Ruzica Church (Rose Church)
Ruzica Church is the oldest church in the city, and it's located on the side of Kalemegdan Fortress. As you can see, you'll probably need hours or even days to explore the fortress and everything it has to offer. The church is described as one of the most beautiful places in Belgrade.
3. Knez Mihailova
Knez Mihaliova is the most popular street in the city and, accordingly, the main street in Belgrade. It's also the main pedestrian area with endless shopping areas, which also include luxurious brands. Knez Mihailova is the main meeting point and is well-connected to all parts of the city.
4. National Museum
Right behind the Knez Mihailo monuments is located the National Museum of Serbia. As you probably know, it's a cultural building and features numerous stories and artifacts related to 7000 years old Serbian history. Don't worry; you can easily get a guided tour in English. The ticket price is around 3 dollars, and you can enjoy a free tour on Sundays.
5. Tram 2
Krug Dvojke is a Serbian term for a tram line around the heart of the city. It's said that real estate in this part of the city is very expensive, if not the most expensive, in Serbia. However, we recommend taking a ride with tram 2 line to explore the very heart of the city. One round lasts for about 60 minutes, and you can even get an English guide.
6. Mama Shelter
Between the aforementioned Knez Mihailova street and the Kalemegdan Fortress, we recommend checking out Mama Shelter. It's a very original place with a unique design and is ranked as one of the ten best rooftops in the world. You heard right, in the world. Make sure to get a picture here.
7. Skadarlija
Skadarlija is a Bohemian quarter and is also located within the city center. It's one of the hidden European Gems, and we guarantee you're gonna love it here. Besides numerous restaurants, and kafanas (which is a unique name for a Balkan tavern), you will find glorious music until late night hours. Besides, the music is faithful to the Balkan culture. So, make sure to visit the Bohemian quarter called Skadarlija.
8. Avala
Now, this is perfect for those of you that love beautiful spectating views. In fact, Avala tower is the perfect place for you to take a look at the city from a different perspective. You'll be able to enjoy more than 100 km of the panoramic view. Besides being one of the main landmarks in Serbia, it's also characteristic of the whole Balkan. It's also a popular picnic area.
9.Nikola Tesla Museum
Nikola Tesla is the most famous Serbian, besides being the most popular person in the world. You can visit his museum in Belgrade, but we recommend hiring a guide. Nikola Tesla Museum is also a great place for kids, so if you plan on going on a family trip, this museum is a must.
